Marion Daily Star (Marion, OH) 1887 January 28
George Hineman was appointed guardian of the property of Conrad Drollinger by the probate court Thursday

Marion Star (Marion, Ohio) 1890 August 2
Conrad Drollinger, an old and enfeebled citizen, was taken before the probate court Friday, Where an inquest of lunacy was held and he was judged insane. The old man has had a guardian for the past three years, but during the past couple weeks he had become uncontrollable and under hallucinations had wandered about the city and near the railroads, being impressed with the strange notion he was a drayman. He was perfectly harmless but some what annoying and troublesome, and for his own safety thought it best to confine him. He was accordingly placed in jail to await the proper papers admitting him to the Columbus insane asylum.

Marion Daily Star (Marion, OH) 1890 August 11
Conrad Drollinger who was adjudged insane last week was taken to the asylum at Columbus by Sheriff Kelly

Marion Daily Star, Marion Ohio, 25 May 1893

Text: biography of Samuel Smith Rowser.
Rowser, Samuel S., blacksmith, Red Oak Grove; Section 11; Post Office Shiloh; born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, August 24, 1826; lived in Pennsylvania seventeen years; came to Davenport, Iowa, in 1844, and learned his trade there; then returned East and lived there until 1856; when he came to Cedar County and engaged in his business here at the Grove, and is the only blacksmith in this town; owns house and lot and small farm; has held office of Justice of the Peace, Town Clerk, Town Trustee and Secretary School Board. Married Fanny Drollinger, from Pennsylvania; they have nine children--John M., Ann E., Anthony W., Nancy, Ella, Irving, Charles, Eddie and Mable; lost one son--George.

Samuel Smith Rowser
Native of Martinsburg, Died at his home in Iowa. Lived in west over half a century. Was pioneer of Cedar County.
Samuel Smith Rowser was born in Martinsburg, Pennsylvania, 21 August 1826. He went to Iowa in 1844, first settling in Scott County, at Davenport. In 1848 he returned to Pennsylvania remaining for about four years. In 1855, returned to Davenport, Iowa and in 1856 he moved to Red Oak Grove, Iowa, where he continued to reside until his death, which occurred 6 June 1911.
His wife died 21 September 1902. Ten children were born in this home. Six sons and four daughters, one son having died in infancy. There remain five sons and four daughters to cherish the memory of a beloved father. There remains also two sisters and one brother, fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was the oldest of a family of four children and the first of four to die.
This aged father was a life long member of the church, having jointed the United Brethren Church in 1852 and remain with that church as long as it continued in Red Oak Grove; then he united with the Presbyterian Church. His children believed in him. One of his sons said, "My father was a man who lived his religion seven days in the week."
He was devoted to the church and the interests of God's Kingdom. He was honored and loved, not only in his home but also by his friends and all those whose good fortune it was to know him.
For several years he has been a helpless paralytic. He was tenderly cared for by a daughter, Nancy Rowser, who ministered to his every need.
He was ready to go and the gates of the Eternal City opened wide to receive his spirit. Fortunate indeed, are the sons and daughters to have had a father whose memory is so precious to them.
Several years ago Mr. Rowser visited Martinsburg when we learned to know him. He possessed a retentive memory and told the editor of the Herald more of the early doings and history of Martinsburg than any other person. The town had then undergone a complete change as to people living here, there being very few here who lived here when Mr.Rowser was a resident, one of whom was Mayor Alex Bobb.
Mr. Rowser was one of the pioneers of Cedar County, Iowa and the present generation now enjoying the fruits of the labors of the early settlers. The funeral of Mr. Rowser was held Thursday, 8 June, the services being held at the Red Oak Church by Rev. W. B. Davis of Stanwood.

Marian Thompson Bigler passed away on May 1, 2022 at 97 years. She was born in 1924, in Provo, Utah to Cyril L. Vance and Ardath M. Hood. She was raised by her grandmother, Serena Broadbent Vance, who was also raising nine children of her own. Marian often would repeat their names to make sure she would greet them properly should they come to visit: Cyril, Elma, Wendell, Merlin, Lois, Lloyd, Miriam, Laura and Norma.
She married Robert E. (Cy) Thompson in 1948. They raised their three children in Salt Lake City, Utah. Marian was active in her church, was a Girl Scout leader and loved sewing, gardening and mystery novels. She led the singing in Sunday School; she sang with the Allegro Chorus; and, she always had music playing in the house. She and Cy were divorced in 1969.
She married Owen G. Bigler in 1972. They enjoyed fishing, traveling and joining the Bigler family for joyous family reunions. Owen passed away in 1989.
She is survived by her three children: Teri Thompson of Miami, Florida; Randall C Thompson (Debby) of Libertyville, Illinois; and Jeanine Thompson (Douglas Moody) of Westerville, Ohio. She is also survived by her two grandchildren: Katherine Anne Thompson of Palatine, Illinois and Michael C. Thompson of Chicago, Illinois. She is also survived by her former daughter-in-law, Barbara Thompson (James Drullinger) of Gurnee, Illinois.
Marian was a happy, friendly person who loved to make friends and participate in the life of her community. She loved her life, friends and caretakers at East Ridge Retirement Village. She especially enjoyed singing with the chorus, meeting her friends for dinner, walking around the campus and attending classes in music history and percussion.

Dear Gordon
It is with heart felt pleasure that I hear of your safety though I heard from Malta that you were safe and sound. God knows how delighted I was. And I cannot find words to express my thanks and gratitude to you for your great loyalty, Devotion, and Heroism and you kept your promise and it would be my great delight now to grasp your hand as a staunch friend, comrade and gentleman and a S(illegible) (illegible) inch. You and I have had a marvelous escape, have we not? Both on Seddhe Baher Beach when we landed in the troops from the SS River Clyde and then we lost the poor old ship "Cornwallis" to T/ps! but thank God almost everyone saved including as you say our Captain Davidson and Commanders Stewart and Crichton.
