Notes - Son of Gen. Augustus D. and Elizabeth Freeman (Cornish) Ayling. Elected director of the John Hancock Mutual life insurance company of Boston in 1913. Mr. Ayling was involved in many civic organizations, one of the organizers of the Hyannis Airport in 1928. He was a generous benefactor to the community, including the Cape Cod Hospital and the Centerville Historical Museum.
