- Phyllis Jean Richardson was born on June 30, 1933 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the daughter of Matilda May (Butler) and Alfred Carl Swanson. She grew up in Shenandoah and in Bingham, near Shenandoah.
On January 17, 1959, Phyllis and Isaac Eugene Richardson were united in marriage in Las Vegas, Nevada and made their home in Coin, Iowa. She and Gene later moved to Lee Summit, Missouri, then Des Moines, Iowa, and finally back to Shenandoah where they lived near Porter?s Lake.
Following a courageous battle with cancer, Phyllis passed away September 5, 2017 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 84 years, 2 months, and 5 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband Gene; sisters, Marjorie Bright and Verna Cain; niece Janet McKinnon; and nephews, Tom Bright and Carl Cain.
Left to cherish her memory are her four children, Karen Whitslar and husband Delbert of Essex, IA, Eric Richardson and wife Rena of Shenandoah, Greg Richardson and wife Arlene of Shenandoah, Lynette Lakey and husband Larry of Aldrich, MO; five grandchildren, Travis Richardson, Rachel Richardson, Aaron Whitslar, Ryan Richardson, and Colin Powles; great grandson Parker Richardson; brothers, John Swanson of Des Moines, IA and Jim Swanson of Shenandoah; cousin, Muriel Younggren of Hallock, MN; extended relatives; and a host of friends.
