  It appears James was named in honor of his father, James and his mother's father, Franklin. It appears that James was never married or had children. The spelling of James' surname appears as 'Trollinger' or 'Trolinger' from one document to another. It is not clearly known which spelling he intended to actually go by. He may have been illiterate. Most of his siblings appear to have used the 'Trollinger' spelling. However, his name is provided as "James F, Trolinger" on his Headstone Applications for Military Veterans by Miss Mary Stanfield who was the applicant. It is not known what Mary's relationship to James was and if she truly knew the spelling of his surname as he intended it to be. Until definitive proof of the spelling he preferred is known, he shall be recorded herein by the 'Trollinger' spelling, the predominant spelling of his siblings.
