MARGARET DIEBOLD DIES THIS MORNING
She Suffers from an Attack of the Grip
WHICH ENDS WITH A STROKE OF PARALYSIS
Not Considered in a Serious Condition Till Sunday -- A Good Woman and Loving Mother Gone -- The Funeral Will be Held at the Late Home Friday Afternoon
Mrs. Margaret Diebold, aged eight-one years, widow of the late John Diebold, who died about twenty-nine years ago, passed away at her home at South State Street, about 7 o'clock this morning. A week ago today she contracted a heavy cold which settled into grip, but her condition was not considered serious until Sunday night. Early this morning she suffered a stroke of paralysis, dying shortly afterwards. Prior to her last illness she had enjoyed very good health for one of her advanced years, and was quite active in her daily life.
Mrs. Diebold and her husband were natives of Baden, Germany. Mrs. Diebold was born in that county August 21, 1830, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Croft Mai. She was married to Mr. Diebold, May 1, 1853, and came with her husband to this county a year later. They settled in Marion, and with the exception of one year spend in Indiana, always resided in the home in which they departed this life.
To this union were born four children, Rosa, wife of William A. Shoemaker, of Columbus, John, who died about twenty-two years ago; Louise, the wife of George Krause, of South State Street and Clara Diebold, who resides at the family residence. She also leaves four granddaughters, one great-grandson and two brothers, Christian and Philip Mai of Portland, Indiana.
Amid her family circle, the deceased spent the happiest days of her life, and not only as a mother, but also as a friend she was loved by all who knew her. She took a great interest in her home life, and was a very good woman.
The funeral will be held from the late residence, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. C. J. Keppel, of the Salem Evangelical church, assisted by Rev. G. M. Rourke of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. The remains will be interred in the Marion Cemetery.
