    1910 Census

  • Notes
    • In the 1910 Census Dora is identified as being 24 years old and being married for eight years and the mother of four children with three living. With a serious lack of available evidence other than the 1910 Census it is difficult to really know with any certainty what Dora's true birth date is. The 1910 Census should not be held as the sole authority of it. When one examines Mary Trollinger's marriage record (ref copy of text below), it states her race as Black and her father as Ben Trollinger and her mother as Dora Trollinger. After an exhaustive search of Ancestry.com records it appears that the only two people that come closest by far of being her parents are Benjamin Trollinger born about 1873 in Alamance County and Dora Graves born to Unknown Graves and Isabelle. Therefore, Mary, Lyman and Louise would be the three living children referred to in Dora's record in the 1910 Census. One has to keep in mind that with both Dora and Mary's TRUE birthdates not being known for sure, it should not completely discount them from being mother and daughter. The preponderance of evidence indicates they most likely are. And it also demonstrates that Dora and Benjamin were wife and husband. Also, due to her age and old enough to be out on her own by then it would serve as reasonable evidence why Mary is not living with Dora, Lyman and Louise at the time of 1910 Census.
