- Cheryl G. Foley, 64, of Fremont died Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Nye Pointe in Fremont after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Cheryl was born Nov. 20, 1952, in Omaha to Rodney Sr. and Gladys (Sutton) Darden.
She lived in Omaha and was a graduate of Bryan High School. Cheryl married Donald Nelson and they later divorced. She married Jim Foley on Aug. 25, 1990, in Waterloo. She worked in the nursing field and then worked at 3M in Valley until deciding to become a stay-at-home, full-time grandmother.
She enjoyed the river, air boating, fishing, camping, mushroom hunting and doing road trips to unknown destinations. She also enjoyed making blankets and beaded Christmas stockings and doing ceramics for everyone. She had an infectious laugh. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she liked to go to Kansas City to see the Christmas lights. She and her husband, Jim, portrayed Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. She was known as Mom or Grandma to those who came to visit.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; son, Donovan (Trisha) Nelson of Fremont and their children, Cyril, Drake, Owen, Eli and Avery; daughter, Nicole Lathrop (Chad Christ) of Fremont and their children, Taylor, Laura, and Jim (Ashly) and their child, Brileigh, and one that is one the way; brothers, Steven Darden of California, Mike (Sherry) Darden of Omaha and Richard Darden of Arizona; sister, Corinna Darden of Omaha; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Rodney Darden Jr.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at First Lutheran Church in Fremont. The Rev. Stephanie Tollefson will officiate. Visitation with family receiving friends will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
