BETH RICHARDSON BURIED MONDAY
DALLAS, Ore., May 11 - Mrs. Beth Richardson, wife of Earle Richardson, editor of the Itemizer-Observer, passed away early Friday morning, April 28, at her home. She had been ill for a period of almost two years, following a serious operation in 1942, and had been in critical condition since March 30.
Mrs. Richardson was born January 28, 1896, at Brainard, Neb., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Stewart. Her childhood and early girlhood were spent at Brainard and Hebron, Neb. The family came west to Oregon in December, 1912, and located at Medford. She finished high school there, graduating in the class of 1914. She enrolled in the music department at McMinnville College in the fall of 1916, later changing over to the regular college course. The family left Medford in the spring of 1917 and located at McMinnville. She graduated from college with the class of 1921 and was valedictorian of the class. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Phi sorority during her college days, active in student affairs and president of the Conquest class of the Baptist Sunday school.
On September 14, 1921, she was married at McMinnville to Earle Richardson. They had been classmates at McMinnville College prior to the war. Their first home was in Portland where he was employed as a reporter on The Oregonian.
Mrs. Richardson was a member of the McMinnville Baptist church; Naomi Chapter No. 22, Order of Eastern Star; Carl B. Fenton Unit, American Legion auxiliary, which she had served a number of years as secretary, and Circle B of the Dallas Presbyterian church.
She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Vivian Eileen; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Stewart of Delake; two sisters, Mrs. Robert E. Evans of McMinnville and Mrs. James Walkenshaw of Delake, and two brother, Dr. J. Park Stewart of Pendleton and Dr. R. Moore Stewart of Yreka, Cal. One brother, Dean L. Stewart, who then resided near Willamina, died of accidental injuries in April, 1938. All members of the family were able to be present for the services.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Dallas Presbyterian church with Rev. Ralph P. Waggoner, pastor, and Rev. Ellsworth M. Tilton, pastor of the Dallas Methodist church, officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park at McMinnville. Arrangements were in charge of Henkle & Bollman. Business houses of the city closed as a tribute of respect during the ceremony.
