      Hazel E. Elsasser, 96, a former Sidney resident, died on Thursday, Jan. 17, at Roanoke, Va. Private graveside services were held on Saturday, Jan. 19, at Greenwood Cemetery. The Rev. Vern Greenhalgh of First Christian Church officiated.Born Hazel Edna Likes, she was married to John C. Elsasser on May 15, 1918 at Chappell.They farmed in the Chappell area until 1928 when they moved to a farm north of Sidney. She lived in Roanoke the past several years. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Atkens of Roanoke; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by her husband in March 1977; her daughter, Arline Lostroh in November 1990; one sister Eula Likes, and a brother, Earl Likes.
