- Naturalized as U.S. citizen in St. Louis, Missouri 24 Sep 1900 in St. Louis Court of Criminal Correction. Declaration of Intent signed in St. Louis, Missouri Court of Appeals on ?? March 1895. Permission to emigrate from Germany to America granted in Karlsruhe in October, 1894.
Arrived in U.S. 1 Nov 1894 aboard German-flagged vessel "Lahn." Ship sailed from Bremen to New York via Southampton. Sailed in steerage under ticket number 4906. Passenger list at debarkation shows occupation as "laborer" and destination as "St. Louis." Age recorded as 18. Ship data obtained 25 Jul 1994 by Adrian and Ruth at Allen County Public Library, Ft. Wayne, Indiana from microfilm data supplied through USINS. Processed through first building built at Ellis Island (this building burned in 1895).

LAHN
The "Lahn" was built by Fairfield Co Ltd, Glasgow in 1887 for Norddeutscher Lloyd (North German Lloyd). She was a 5,099 gross ton ship, length 448.4 ft x beam 49ft, two funnels, four masts, single screw and a speed of 18 knots. There was accommodation for 224-1st, 106-2nd and 700-3rd class passengers. Launched on 7/9/1887, she sailed from Bremen on her maiden voyage to Southampton and New York on 1/2/1888. In 1896, her masts were reduced to two and on 1/10/1901 she commenced her last Bremen - Southampton - New York voyage. She was transferred to the Genoa - Naples - New York service on 13/11/1901 and commenced her last voyage on this route on 4/2/1904. Later the same year, she was sold to the Russian navy and renamed "Russ." She was scrapped in 1927.
