      Jasper was a farmer; During the Civil War he served in CO. "B", 11th Iowa Infantry, having enlisted at Union Jan 5, 1864 and discharged at Louisville, KY in 1865. He served under Sherman in his march from Atlanta to the sea, and took part in the grand review in Washington, DC at the close of the war.
