Thursday, April 19, 1877
Died on the morning of the 12th instant, Mr. James Clark in the 79th year of his age. He leaves behind him a widow and 8 children, and a large circle of friends to mourn his loss. Mr. Clark has been a resident of Vermillion County for about 47 years, and lived on the place where he died, near Clinton, for over 45 years.

1. To my wife Serena Clark during her natural lifetime my land in Vermillion County - 80 acres
2. To my daughters - Mary Stone, Cordelia Martin, and Susan E. Porter, the proceeds of promissary notes amounting to $2100
3. To my wife Serena Clark all the personal property
4. After the decease of my wife, the land is to be sold and all the personal property
5. Proceeds to my heirs Jane Hatley, Lydia Crabb, and Elizabeth Hann deceased heirs (who have received nothing from my estate) $800 each
6. To Cordelia Martin, Mary Stone, and Susan E. Porter, an amount which together with what has already been given them will make $800 each. My sons Joseph S. Clark and James G. Clark, and my daughter Sarah Stultz have already received the sum of $800 each.
7. If anything is left, divide it equally among my 8 children.
