  	Decatur County Journal Thursday, May l0, l9l7 JOANA JOSEPHINE TRULLINGER was born in Davis County, Iowa, October 5, l847, and died at her home in Garden Grove, Iowa, May lst, l9l7, at the age of 69 years, 6 months and 26 days. Sleep came to her one week after she received a stroke of paralysis. During her early childhood she removed with her parents, GABRIEL and ELIZABETH TRULLINGER, to Decatur County, where she resided until her death. She was married to HENRY W. SPARLING, November l7, l870. To this union were born seven children, four of whom survive her, namely, MILLIE, JOSEPHINE and EVA, of Garden Grove, Iowa, and CLARA GARDNER, of Sulphur, South Dakota. The three children preceding her were a son who died in infancy, ELMYRA M., who died March 3, l897, and ELBERT G., who died March l5, l898. MRS. SPARLING is also survived by her husband, HENRY W. SPARLING, and her brother, JOSEPH TRULLINGER, who resides near Garden Grove. MRS. SPARLING united with the Christian Church near Leon when she was l2 years of age. She has been a kind and faithful mother, encouraging her children with good advice and eager to do her part in the home even when in feeble health. We keep her memory precious, While we never cease to pray, That at last when lengthening shadows Mark the evening of life's day, They may find you calmly waiting To go home the Heavenly way. The funeral services were held at her home at l o'clock, May 3rd, conducted by Rev. Henry Esch, of Leon, and assisted by Rev. F.A. Heizer, and Rev. G.W. Hall. Interment was in the Winters Cemetery, four and one-half miles northwest of Garden Grove.
