      Samuel Howard "Diz" DeHaven, age 85, of Okeechobee, Florida, formerly of Lake Station, IN, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2002 at home.
      He was born on December 28, 1916 to Carl J. and Mary Ellen (Cooper) DeHaven. On October 20, 1940 in Crown Point, he married Audrey M. DeHaven (nee Harbit) who preceded him. Surviving him are three daughters, Joan (Iran) Floyd of Wheatfield, Janice (Paul Hoshaw) DeHaven of Valparaiso and Carla R. DeHaven of Evart, MI; two sons, Daniel H. DeHaven of Valparaiso and Boyd L. (Dawn) DeHaven of Middleburg, FL, sisters, Laura Mosier, Ruth Aileen "Corky" (Harold) Johnson, sisters-in-law, Viola and Jean DeHaven; ten grandchildren: Joe Watson, Tammy Nollen, Colette and Tommy Malizzo, Jeremy, Jordan, Ashlie and Daniel DeHaven and Samatha and Shelby DeHaven; three great-grandchildren and special friend, Bette Foster of Florida and Canada.
      His parents and a son, David, sisters, Lola (Harvey) Kremke, Elizabeth (Alvin) Thorne, Frances (Charles)
      Dowd, Marion (Clarence) Lambert, and brothers, Don (Iva) DeHaven, Jack (Ann) DeHaven, Jim DeHaven and Carl De Haven preceded him.
      Mr. DeHaven graduated from Washington Township High School in 1936 and worked at U.S. Steel as a Rail Mill billing clerk from 1937-1979 when he retired to Okeechobee FL. He played baseball for Club Vail for 12 years and softball for the Porter V's for ten years. He was a past president and manager of the Lake Station Little League and member and manager of Lake Station Babe Ruth. He was also a member of Moose Lodge 783 for 47 years and an avid bowler in Lake Station, Hobart and Okeechobee, FL, for many years.
      Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 3, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Mike Ratliff officiating at Bartholomew Funeral Home, 102 Monroe, Valparaiso, IN. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 2nd from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bartholomew Funeral Home.
