Gates Gwendolyn U. Gates, 93, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at University Heights Healthcare Center in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Greenwood. She was born in Kansas City, Kan. Her parents were Henry and Annette (Stephens) Umlauf. She married Glen B. Gates on Dec. 31, 1930, in Kansas City, Mo. He preceded her in death. Survivors include a daughter, Diane Marvel of Greenwood; a sister, Imogene Shannon of Kansas City, Kan.; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers. She was employed for 10 years as a private secretary by the Victor L. Phillips Co. in Kansas City, Mo. She was a member of St. Timothy Episcopal Church in Indianapolis, Delta Theta Tau sorority and the Greenwood-White River Optimism Club. The Rev. Norm Morford will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home, State Road 135 Chapel. Friends can call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a special memorial service by Delta Theta Tau sorority at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in White River Township.
